A talented student-ecologist of NMU Karina Semerich (GEM-13-1) was awarded a first degree diploma at the All-Ukrainian competition of student works in the scientific field of Ecology and Environmental Safety for her work ‘Assessment of the degree of greening of the territories of sanitary protection zones of quarries using GIS technologies’, which was held on 18-20 March 2014 on the basis of Donetsk National Technical University.

On 4 December, the Department of Ecology hosted the section ‘Environmental Problems of the Region’ of the First All-Ukrainian Scientific and Technical Conference of Students, Postgraduates and Young Scientists ‘Youth: Science and Innovations’.
Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology Pavlichenko A.V. took part in the Regional Scientific and Methodological Conference ‘Ecology, Chemistry, Education 2013’, which was held on 2 December 2013 at the SHEI ‘Dnipro Polytechnic College’. From 30 October to 1 December 2013, Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology Kovrov O.S. completed a research internship at the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology of the Rhein-Westphalische Technische Universität (Aachen, Germany) with the financial support of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
From 18 to 23 November 2013, the delegation of NMU consisting of the Head of the Department of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology Dmytro Rudakov and Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology Iryna Klimkina with the financial support of the Ministry of Education of Algeria took part in official meetings with the rectors' offices of the universities of Bordj Areridj, Guelma, Annaba and Setif, as well as the Higher School of Mining and Metallurgy (Annaba).
On 7 November 2013, the Regional Library for Youth named after Svetlov with the participation of the library staff, teachers and students of the Dnipro College of Transport Infrastructure held a public seminar on ‘Biospheric Ethics - the basis of environmental awareness’. On 21-25 October 2013, the Department of Ecology was visited by Associate Professor of the Department of Marine Ecology of the Kerch State Maritime Technological University T. On 15-17 October 2013, Associate Professors of the Department of Ecology O.O. Borysovska and A.V. Pavlichenko took part in the VI International Forum ‘Complex Support of Laboratories’, which was held at the KyivExpoPlaza Exhibition Centre (Kyiv). On 9 October 2013, the staff of the M. Svetlov Children's Regional Library organised an educational event dedicated to the International Day for the Reduction of Natural Disaster Risks at the secondary school No. 2. During the event, employees of the Department of Ecology - assistants Buchavyi Yurii and Fedotov Viktor delivered a presentation to high school students on ‘Current environmental problems of the city of Dnipro and ways to solve them’. 10.09.2013 Participation in the VI International Scientific Conference
The student of gr. GE-13-1m Semirich K.V. took an active part in the VI International Scientific Conference of Students, Undergraduates and Postgraduates ‘Regional Environmental Problems, Scientific, Methodological and Applied Aspects of Their Solution’, which was held at the Odesa State Environmental University on 9-11 September 2013. As a result of the conference, her report on ‘Ways of solving the problem of vegetable waste management in the territory of Dnipropetrovs'k’ was awarded a Diploma of the organising committee for the high level of the report.
Associate Professor of the Department of Ecology Klimkina Iryna Ivanivna received a grant from the Open Society Foundations and the University of Cambridge to conduct research at the Laboratory of Cell Biology of the Herndon Institute for Carcinogenesis (Cambridge, UK).
