On 19 May 2021, undergraduate and postgraduate students studying ‘Ecology’ and ‘Environmental Protection Technologies’ attended an online practical seminar entitled ‘Environmental Education for Students’ as part of their studies in the modules ‘Community Environmental Activities’, ‘Project Management in Ecology’, and ‘Environmental Impact Assessment’, attended an online practical seminar entitled ‘Environmental Education for Students’.

The event was organised by specialists from the Department of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Dnipropetrovsk Regional State Administration as part of Open Government Week 2021, with the support of the ‘Open Government Partnership in Ukraine’ initiative – OGP Ukraine.

The topic of discussion was the environmental impact assessment procedure, which has replaced the state environmental expert review. The EIA procedure enables businesses to preliminarily assess the likely environmental impact of the activities they plan to carry out.

The main objective of the seminar was to equip future specialists with the skills and competencies to ensure the application of the legal and organisational principles of environmental impact assessment, aimed at preventing environmental damage, ensuring environmental safety, environmental protection, the rational use and regeneration of natural resources in the decision-making process regarding economic activities that may have a significant impact on the environment, taking into account state, public and private interests.
