On 21 January 2021, a project entitled ‘Comprehensive Programme for Environmental Safety and Sustainable Development in Dnipro for 2021-2025’ was presented in Dnipro.

It includes both global measures involving large industrial enterprises in the city and local measures, such as combating flooding on certain streets.

The comprehensive programme includes several areas, in particular:

- Air: implementation of measures to reduce pollution from industrial enterprises and motor vehicles. Improvement of the environmental monitoring system.

- Water resources protection: restoration and promotion of the hydrological condition of water bodies, purification of surface discharge, reconstruction of Dniprovodokanal facilities.

- Land resources: protection against flooding, anti-landslide measures, recultivation of land affected by illegal landfills.

- Measures aimed at improving the waste management system. In particular, this item includes the continuation of the construction of the Pravoberezhny landfill.

- Holding scientific and technical conferences, scientific research and environmental festivals.

‘Funds for the implementation of the programme are not only provided from the city budget. Large industrial enterprises have joined the programme – they will carry out environmental measures at their facilities, such as improving purification systems.’

During the press conference, Artem Pavlichenko, Head of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies at the Dnipro Polytechnic National Technical University, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor, noted that the scientific community was also involved in developing the programme for the next five years.

"The programme was developed taking into account discussions at the scientific and technical council. The programme lays the foundations for the creation of environmental monitoring and the development of a modern system. There are plans to purchase new observation posts.‘ The project ’Comprehensive Programme for Environmental Safety and Sustainable Development in Dnipro for 2021-2025" will be approved at a session of the Dnipro City Council.
