On February 25, 2020, a meeting between representatives of the Environmental Policy Department of the Dnipro City Council and students and staff of the Dnipro Polytechnic National Technical University was held at the CoLibry event center.
The interactive seminar was opened by V.I. Buzylo, Director of the Educational and Scientific Institute of Nature Management at Dnipro Polytechnic National Technical University, who emphasized that the university has been training students in environmental and nature conservation for over twenty years. He noted that the staff and students of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies actively cooperate with local authorities in addressing the environmental problems of our city.
Head of the Department A.V. Pavlichenko noted that employees of the Institute of Environmental Management have been actively cooperating with the Department of Environmental Policy of the Dnipro City Council for more than ten years in solving scientific problems in the field of environmental protection. In addition, university staff are members of the department's scientific and technical council, and students undergo internships there and collect materials for the preparation of scientific, course, and qualification works.
O. B. Semenko, Director of the Environmental Policy Department of the Dnipro City Council, outlined the current environmental problems of the city of Dnipro and the priority measures being implemented by the department to address them. He noted that within the framework of the cooperation agreement with Dnipro Polytechnic National Technical University, opportunities are being implemented for conducting joint comprehensive scientific research, publishing scientific collections of works, organizing and conducting scientific-methodological and scientific-practical forums, conferences, symposiums, seminars, creative discussions, academic readings, etc. to search for and support innovative technologies in environmental protection and the training of highly qualified specialists.
Deputy Director of the Department, Head of the Municipal Ecology Division I.A. Kozlova outlined promising areas for involving students and scientists specializing in environmental protection in solving the ecological problems of the city of Dnipro. She also noted the department's activities in addressing the issue of solid waste management, taking into account the experience of Japan.
At the end of the meeting, the guests called on students and staff not to be indifferent to the environmental problems of our city and to join various environmental protection activities organized by the city authorities. Students and staff showed great enthusiasm and thanked the guests for the interesting information and real-life examples of solving the pressing problems of our region.
