Five days in Freiberg’s laboratories: international training connecting research and teaching

Experiments using modern equipment, exchanges with German researchers and the development of digital learning materials were at the heart of the international training programme completed by Associate Professor Pavlo Lomazov and Assistant Lecturer Sofiia Pinchuk at TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany). The programme took place on 12–16 October 2026 as part of the RECLAIM project, with support from DAAD.

🔬 At ITUN, the participants worked with laboratory equipment, investigated solid drying processes and phase equilibria, and explored the work of research groups in thermal, environmental and resource process engineering. Meetings with researchers provided opportunities to exchange approaches to conducting experiments and organising practical teaching.

💻 Particular attention was given to combining laboratory experiments with digital learning tools. The programme included video recording of experiments and the preparation of related teaching materials, designed to help students understand how equipment works, follow experimental procedures and observe the processes involved.

🤝 The training brought together professional development, the advancement of research and teaching skills, and international academic cooperation. The approaches explored during the programme can be used to update practical classes and learning materials, giving students a stronger connection to hands-on research.
