🧫 Internship: From University Knowledge to Real Laboratory Experience

We are happy to share the internship experience of Svitlana Shuba, a Biology and Biochemistry student, who completed her practical training at the Zaporizhzhia Regional State Laboratory of the State Service of Ukraine on Food Safety and Consumer Protection, under the supervision of Yu. M. Toroptseva, Acting Head of the Bacteriology Department.

During her internship, Svitlana became familiar with the organisation of a bacteriology laboratory, modern laboratory equipment, and strict biosafety requirements. More importantly, she had an opportunity to become directly involved in real laboratory research. 🔬

A particularly valuable part of the internship was independently testing drinking water using the membrane filtration method and conducting sanitary and microbiological analyses of chilled meat samples. Svitlana also gained practical experience in sample preparation, preparation and autoclaving of culture media, incubation procedures, as well as biochemical and serological identification of microorganisms.

💬 “The internship significantly increased my professional confidence and helped me define the direction of my future scientific research more clearly,” Svitlana says.

We are especially pleased when an internship becomes much more than a formal part of the curriculum and gives our students an opportunity to experience their future profession, develop practical research skills, and become even more confident in their chosen field. 🌱
