The Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies of Dnipro University of Technology joined practical environmental monitoring activities and, together with the Department of Environmental Policy of Dnipro City Council, conducted a water quality study of the Dnipro River near Monastyrskyi Island 🌿

During sampling and laboratory analysis, the main physicochemical parameters of water were assessed, including pH, mineralization, phosphates, nitrates, nitrites, oxidation-reduction potential, and organoleptic characteristics. According to the results, the water pH was about 8.3, mineralization was 179–183 mg/L, and phosphate concentration was 0.25 mg/L. Most of the analyzed parameters were within acceptable limits.

At the same time, during the field observation and further microscopic analysis of the samples, the first signs of blue-green algae development were recorded. This indicates initial manifestations of eutrophication, which may intensify under increasing water temperature and lead to more active “blooming” of the Dnipro River 🔬

Such studies make it possible to assess the river’s condition in time, identify early changes in the aquatic ecosystem, and draw public attention to the need to protect the Dnipro River. This is not only scientific work, but also the Department’s public environmental activity in cooperation with the city 🤝

For us, it is important not only to talk about environmental problems, but also to show students, educators, and the community how real environmental monitoring works: from sampling to interpretation of results.
💧 Water is one of the key resources for sustainable development. Its quality is directly connected with human health, ecosystem condition, and the future of our territories.
