Representatives of the Department of Ecology and Environmental Protection Technologies of the Dnipro Polytechnic National Technical University took part in the shift together with specialists from the Department of Environmental Policy of the Dnipro City Council (inst: @ecologiya_dnepr). The purpose of the trip was to conduct operational monitoring of the water condition in the city's water area.
🧪 Two water samples were taken:
📊 Research results:
The water at both points generally complies with sanitary and chemical standards.
Mineralisation is low - about 223 mg/l, which is typical for fresh water.
The level of dissolved oxygen was 8-9 mg/l, which is a good indicator and indicates favourable conditions for aquatic biota. This oxygen level is probably maintained by the active current in the sampling area. At the same time, it should be noted that in the event of warming and the onset of blue-green algae blooms, the oxygen content may decrease significantly, which will negatively affect river biodiversity.
The turbidity of the water was slightly above the optimal limit. Nitrate and nitrite concentrations are within acceptable limits but require periodic monitoring. Water hardness is low. The pH value is at the upper limit of the norm, which corresponds to a slightly alkaline environment.
📌 Last year, during a similar shift on the island, due to higher water temperatures, active algae blooms were already observed and, as a result, the dissolved oxygen content was reduced. The current situation is more stable.
🌱 Such trips are an important part of the joint work of scientists, municipal environmental services and the environmental monitoring system. Let's observe the state of the Dnipro together 💚
