On May 12 the Department of Ecology celebrated the Day of Environmental Education, which was established in 1991 with the purpose of actualisation of ecological knowledge in all sciences and spheres of human activity.
It is difficult to overestimate the importance of environmental education. It is ecological knowledge that allows a person to realise to what catastrophic phenomena harmful habits towards nature can lead, and also to understand how to avoid such consequences.
The highest goal of environmental education is to form the so-called ecological culture. This holiday concerns everyone who takes part in promoting the idea of nature protection.
An initiative group of students (Babanskaya N, Ivanova O, Kuksa A, Saenko K, Fedorenko A, Shchur K, Podpryatova N, Lukash A, Seredich T, Sharoyko O) and teachers of the department (docent Klimkina I.I., ace Gruntovaya V.Y., ace Fedotov V.V.) organised a thematic lecture for students of ecology 1-3 courses under the motto ‘Let's save our planet together!’.
The reports analysed the activities of environmental organisations in Ukraine and around the world, touched upon aspects of sustainable development of territories, focused on the problems of biodiversity conservation in urbanised areas, and proposed promising directions for the creation of environmentally friendly houses and environmentally safe living environments on the example of unique projects ‘Cities of the Future’. In between the presentations students solved crossword puzzles, tested their knowledge by testing and participated in informative quizzes, for correct answers to which they were awarded with incentive prizes.
In order to attract the attention of students and guests of the Department of Ecology, an ‘Information Poster’ dedicated to environmental problems of mankind was prepared, as well as an ‘Ecological Calendar’ with significant dates for the environment.
