The author's team consisting of the staff of the department, Dr.Sc., Prof. V.E. Kolesnik, A.A. Yurchenko, A.A. Litvinenko, A.V. Pavlichenko published a monograph ‘Ways and means of increasing environmental safety of mass explosions in iron ore quarries by dust factor’.

The monograph analyses the main regularities of dust cloud distribution after mass explosions in iron ore quarries, levels of its danger and presents the results of development of ecologically effective solutions to reduce dust emissions into the atmosphere. The method of determining the height of rise of iron ore dust particles under the action of thermal factors is proposed. Technical solutions to reduce the height of dust cloud lifting and its spreading range are developed, providing for the optimisation of borehole charges parameters and use of borehole charges packing in the form of a rubber plug with an anchoring device. The method of dedusting by spraying the dust cloud is improved, the necessary droplet sizes and water volumes are substantiated. The use of specially equipped helicopters for transporting and spraying water over the dust cloud is substantiated. Implementation of the proposed technical solutions reduces the degree of danger of mass explosions by the dust factor to a ‘safe’ level.

The monograph is designed for specialists in environmental safety, and will also be useful for teachers, postgraduates and students.
